NEW LEAF INMATE MINISTRIES

For many years, Clint has firmly believed in providing Biblically sound instruction for men & women in prisons and jails. These people are going through some of the most desperate hours of their lives and need to know Jesus, the world’s only true Savior. In 2015, he began in-person classes at Middle River Regional Jail. What he saw there were people who had taken some small steps in faith and now longed to know about God and what He desires for us. He started using the Firm Foundations class to teach them Bible basics and that having a relationship with Christ could provide the missing security in our lives that we all long for. Everything drastically changed when Covid struck. In-person classes became impossible, and the ministry seemed over. But God has a long history of transforming ashes into beauty. New Leaf petitioned Middle River to continue the lessons our students had started via correspondence. Suddenly we could extend our reach to all the men still on the waiting list for the class. Via correspondence, we were able to begin enrolling women into our study and extend our ministry past the jail into the prisons. We only had 12 men in that live class; all we could minister to at one time. But through this disaster, God gave us a new vision and a new reach. All at once we had almost 100 students wanting to take our courses through the mail. The Lord says in Isaiah, "I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it? I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands" (43:19). As we reacted to this change, our numbers have grown substantially. Because we aren't limited by time and location, we could expand the available instruction and offer two more courses. As fellow inmates saw what our students were doing, God ignited in their hearts a thirst for His word and a desire for His forgiveness. Soon we received many more inquiries to take our courses. This inmate-to-inmate referral has placed our courses in almost every prison in Virginia, several in South Carolina and even out to Ohio. This is what God has done to keep His Word, His Gospel, available to incarcerated people so that God's promise through Jeremiah can be fulfilled: "If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me" (29:13).

Firm Foundations

This is our premier course. It is designed to help Christians understand who God is and how He desires to be in a relationship with us. We believe that too many believers don't have the knowledge of the Bible that they need and are therefore missing a foundation to place their hope in God. Jesus said that the wise man builds his house upon the rock, and He meant that we should be basing our lives and our faith on the solid truth of His gospel. Paul asks, "But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him?" (Rom 10:14). This course seeks to teach the core of our faith so that believers may know what they are putting their hope in and the character of the God who steps in to save the lost.

God is our firm foundation. So we will not be afraid, even if disaster comes and our lives seem destroyed (Psalm 46:1-2)
